Finding The Right Substance Misuse Help

July 25, 2010, 5:25 am
Unfortunately, substance misuse is a sad fact of life that millions upon millions of people around the globe are forced to contend with every day. Not only does abuse affect the person misusing the harmful substance, but the fallout is greatly felt by family and friends. Lives can be destroyed in the blink of an eye, and if you or someone you know is misusing drugs in any way, its only a matter of time before stability and wellness become things of the past.

Finding help for substance misuse is a relatively easy process once you clear the first hurdle. Sadly, this first hurdle can seem insurmountable its called acceptance.

Addiction is a vicious cycle that will drive the inflicted further down into a depressive hole, from where he or she will be surrounded by nothing but their addiction. In order to break this dependency, the cycle must be interrupted. Sometimes this interruption needs to come abruptly; sometimes the addicted can ease into treatment. Regardless, finding help is the only way to break this cycle.

If youre seeking out treatment for a loved one or yourself, the first step you should take in clearing the hurdle of acceptance is finding a solid treatment program. Whether the route youre taking is spiritual or physical, rehabilitation centers or close family monitoring and moral support, you must understand that this option needs to be stable. At minimum, its going to take over a month of closely monitoring the addicted individuals activities to be sure theyre not taking drugs. Finding and setting up a good substance abuse treatment plan is essential.

For rehabilitation centers, there are two main types you can choose from: outpatient and residential. Outpatient clinics allow the individual to receive treatment, yet still make the trek home to see family and/or friends at the end of the day. Residential centers, the more popular choice due to their effectiveness, keep patients until theyve broken the cycle of addiction.

After finding the right avenue to take, its time to confront the addicted person with the clear truth. This isnt a time to be judgmental. Any and all anguish caused by the individuals addiction can be discussed at a later date. Confronting addiction and seeking help isnt about saddling someone with guilt; its about making sure they receive treatment in order to break the cycle of addiction. Although it will be painful and wholly uncomfortable, an intervention is a must.

One of the biggest problems in recovery for substance misuse is the thought process employed by the addict. Every addiction is different depending on the person, but almost every reaction is the same. The individual feels as if he or she doesnt need treatment; as if they can quit whenever they want.

Help comes with getting this person into an environment where they can be cared for. The rest of the process, after their release from rehab or completion of their initial treatment, is aftercare. This individuals life is forever changed. He or she needs encouraging support. 12-step programs and constant contact with a sponsor are par for the course with addiction, primarily because they show results.

Its a painful and awkward process for all parties involved, but if you or a loved one needs treatment, action must be taken. Clear thinking and firm action now will save lives.By: 10LA MediaArticle Directory: http://www.articledashboard.comwww.cleansoberiphone.com/www.dailyrecoveryiphone.com/www.soberdayiphone.com/
